On July 4, 2025, devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River changed Kerrville in a matter of hours. Texas Public Radio reporters David Martin Davies and Jack Morgan were on the ground documenting what was happening and delivering information people could trust. Key Ideas helped TPR bring that essential public-media story to the 2026 Illuminate & Inspire Gala.

The Challenge
In a crisis, public media has to do more than report facts. It must help people understand what is happening, find reliable information, and feel connected to a community facing the same uncertainty. TPR needed a gala film that honored the people affected by the flood while showing donors why local journalism matters when information becomes a lifeline.
Our Approach
Key Ideas shaped the film around trust, presence, and responsibility. The reporting itself carried the urgency, so the production used restraint: clear interviews, grounded field imagery, and an editorial structure that kept the community—not the organization—at the center.
- Center the people living through the disaster and the reporters serving them.
- Balance urgency with dignity and avoid sensationalizing loss.
- Connect real-time reporting to TPR’s broader mission of public service.

The Outcome
The finished film gave TPR a human, mission-led way to show what trusted journalism looks like under pressure. At the Illuminate & Inspire Gala, the story connected frontline reporting to the larger promise of public media: reliable information, meaningful connection, and a presence communities can count on when circumstances change without warning.
Behind the Production
The production also created an opportunity to share how the story was built and why this work matters to the people behind the camera.
